Are We Totally CRAZY?!

We are moving our family of 5 from a nearly 3500 square feet custom built beautiful dream home….

into a 1980's single wide trailer. Are we crazy? You can answer that in your head, I don't need to hear the answer out loud. But here's the whole story: sometimes less is more and some opportunities are worth a few headaches. Ok, a lot of headaches. We are leaving our little farm of the past seven years to move onto land that has been in my husband's family for centuries.

One of the original property deeds from back when they said things like, “Know ye”, wrote “f” instead of “s” and oak trees were property line markers.

As we patiently work on remodeling the house built by my husband's grandmother and grandfather, we are camping out in a trailer. Fingers crossed we make it through the North Carolina summer with just window units! If you know me, you've probably heard me say I'd rather be in the garden, on a horse, milking a goat, or anything outside than decorating an estate home, sweeping floors and deciding if my curtains are updated (they probably aren't). People see this big fancy house and say, “It’s perfect for entertaining guests!” However, I’d rather entertain more goats.

We have the opportunity to become closer (quite literally) as a family, make something of our own, and honor the family legacy of land stewardship. You may have already seen my POST about this barn remodel. We took the barn built by my father-in-law and his father, made a few repairs, gave it a face lift, and now it is in working order.

After taking care of 8 acres in the rapidly developing Summerfield community, the prospect of about a hundred acres is exciting. We are beyond blessed with a few ponds for fishing, more space to grow food, raise animals, reforest, create honeybee sanctuaries, and watch our children grow up... all on the same land that has been cared for by generations of family.

Abby the Labby approves of the swimming facility.

Summerfield has been good to us for the last 7 years, and we've met some wonderful folks. But this ain't goodbye! We are not even moving out of the county. So, stay in touch and as we get our family and animals settled in at the new farm, I'll keep you updated on the journey!
